Reflections and Prayers (Page 27)

  • Revealing the Mystery and the Beauty of the Mass
Blessings everyone!  Follow our weekly reflections revealing of the parts of the Mass, how they inspire us to worship and bring us to community. The Mass is the most important prayer for Catholics.  It is a time set aside to pray and come humbly before our God in prayer and worship. We may come to the Church feeling happy, sad, angry, joyful, anxious, busy or at peace.  We may come alone, with friends or with family.  We may even come […]
  • Commissioning Reflection
What a blessing it is for us to follow in the footsteps of the apostles, and be commissioned in our ministry service, just as they were commissioned by Jesus. Commissioning blesses us, and affirms the use of the gifts that God has given us. As we journey in our walk with Jesus, He invites us to partner with him in sharing His love with others. There is nothing greater or more rewarding than to invest our time, and talents into […]

Why Do They Have Their Foreheads Marked With a Cross?

A) Because in the Bible a mark on the forehead is a symbol of a person’s ownership. By having their foreheads marked with the sign of the cross, this symbolizes that the person belongs to Jesus Christ, who died on a Cross. This is the imitation of the spiritual mark or seal that is put on a Christian in baptism, when he is delivered from sin. B) Because ashes are a biblical symbol of mourning and penance. In Biblical times,…

As a young Mozambican of very limited means, he viewed his dream as somewhat impossible. However, we, our local parish & broader community took…

Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

The Catholic Bishops of Alberta have written a beautiful Pastoral Letter titled ‘Remaining True to Christ Now and at the Hour of our Death.’ It is a letter addressing Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. It stresses that ‘Euthanasia and assisted suicide stand in stark opposition to the Christian way of living and our belief in the sanctity of human life….. They violate the prohibition against taking innocent human life and stand as a rejection of God’s absolute sovereignty over life and…

Family Night

I had the pleasure of witnessing several building of new relationships and collaborations; people who have been in the parish for a long time are getting to know each other more. And all of this done as we prayed and enjoyed delicious cuisines from different countries. The night ended with a wonderful time of adoration. My hope is for continual growth…
