The Catholic Bishops of Alberta have written a beautiful Pastoral Letter titled ‘Remaining True to Christ Now and at the Hour of our Death.’ It is a letter addressing Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. It stresses that ‘Euthanasia and assisted suicide stand in stark opposition to the Christian way of living and our belief in the sanctity of human life….. They violate the prohibition against taking innocent human life and stand as a rejection of God’s absolute sovereignty over life and death.’
What should we do as Catholics? What do we need to know? I encourage everyone to read the letter.
Just last week, we read in Penticton Herald: ‘A Life Well Ended’ …. As we empathize with those who suffer, should we really end our lives? No.
Pick up a copy of the letter at the foyer or at the back of the Church or download a copy to read online.
