My brothers and sisters,
Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!
This weekend – at all our Masses, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country and for all those who work to achieve peace. We remember in thanksgiving and sorrow those whose lives – in wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away. Acts of heroism occur frequently during wars, but only few are ever recorded and receive official recognition – “We Remember all of them!”
In our Gospel this weekend, (Mark 12.38-44) Jesus reminds us of the kind of gift that catches God’s attention and it teaches us the essence of a gift. “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.” Jesus invites us to reflect on the significance of being generous, regardless of whether we are wealthy or not. The generosity of a person is not measured by the money one gives but by the disposition which prompts the giving.
Material wealth and money are not the only factors that determine what a person can offer. The highest form of generosity and richness is the loving disposition toward others – giving the best without asking for anything in return. Let us pray and ask for that grace that we may truly give generously to the source of all blessings – even truly give ourselves like Jesus. AMEN!
God Bless You and God Loves You!
