Fr, Where are Your Boots?

Fr, Where are Your Boots?

It was Ash Wednesday and it had snowed. A parishioner arrives in her car for ashes and Holy Communion. Before I said: Body of Christ, she asked: “Fr, where are your boots; you shouldn’t be wearing dress shoes in the snow. I’ll check again tomorrow to see if you listened to me.”

That is how parishioners are ensuring that I’m well and taking me through some of the things I need to know being in Canada. I’m grateful 😊

Ash Wednesday

It was truly a day of grace for us as hundreds of cars came to receive ashes and Holy Communion. After the 9am live stream Mass, we had over 70 cars that came in the laneway behind SJV Church. At 5:15pm, we had a short celebration in the parking lot of St. Ann. Since many came in the morning, I thought there’d be few cars then, but we had almost 50 cars and many came afterwards. We also had Mass in the school at 10:30am.

It was truly a day of blessings as our people were all streaming to the house of God. Lent is truly about our renewed choice for God and an opportunity to refocus on the eternal things – those things which will last. I am so excited to be making this Lenten journey with our parishioners in 2021.

Our theme really captures the sentiments of our heart: ‘Jesus, You are my all in all…You are the treasure that I seek, I seek you as a precious jewel and I’ll never give up.’

Saturday Drive-in Mass at 4pm

Last week Saturday was a snowy day. I was tempted to cancel Mass but I made up my mind to go ahead with the Mass. I really wanted to experience what Mass in the snow would feel and look like. Well, I do have a story to tell when I return to Nigeria 😊

YOU CAN STILL REGISTER FOR SATURDAY DRIVE-IN MASS ON OUR WEBSITE OR YOU CAN PHONE OUR OFFICE AND MELINDA WILL REGISTER YOU.

Sunday Drive-in Mass at 11am

This Sunday, we are starting a Sunday drive-in Mass. We thought of starting this on the first Sunday in Lent as something special for our people. YOU CAN STILL REGISTER.

COVID-19 is strengthening Faith

A recent pew research study finds that in North America, during COVID, people are turning to their faith. With 3 out of 10 saying the pandemic strengthened it.

The search for the eternal, for the permanent, for that which does not change, for that which will last is on the increase….. Lent can help us to rediscover that: to rediscover friendship with Jesus – He who alone satisfies the deepest hunger of the human heart.

The pandemic has killed many. Families have had to bear much sorrow and suffering. I’m praying for you…. Pray for each other…. pray for me.

Thank you! Have a blessed, happy and holy lent!

Your brother, ~ Fr. Obi
