Call On Jesus

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!

Our Gospel this weekend reminds us that life is full of risks. Life is full of ifs. When Bartimaeus cries out to Jesus, asking for healing, he takes that risk. What if Jesus refuses? What if his faith is not sufficient for healing? We could ask lots of questions in every risky decision we make. Life is risky. If we run away because we are scared of the possible outcomes then we will never grow and learn from those risky decisions we make.

But Jesus assures us that He will never abandon us and He will provide the necessary graces we need in all the risky choices if we trust and follow Him. Bartimaeus had enough faith and trust that Jesus would heal him – he only shouts all the louder when it seems that Jesus has not heard Him. Today, Bartimaeus shows us to not be afraid in asking Jesus for healing whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual. He asked with a simple prayer from the heart; a prayer that was powerful as it was direct and clear. “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” Truly, “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.”
