Welcoming Jesus in Our Lives

Welcoming Jesus in Our Lives

My dear friends,

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. The Palm branches, are a traditional and universal image that speaks of the joyful celebration; the heartfelt welcome to the coming of the most awaited one. Men, women and children who, for centuries have been patiently awaiting the coming of the promised Messiah, spill out in full force onto the streets, bidding welcome to Jesus, “who comes in the name of the Lord.” It also commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, a pivotal moment where Jesus was hailed as king by the crowds, but also where His final journey to the cross began. The event is celebrated with palm branches and shouts of “Hosanna,” and symbolizes Jesus Christ’s love, His coming kingdom, and the fulfillment of prophecies about the Messiah.

My sisters and brothers, please find a way to mediate this Holy Week on these points of reflection:

1. The events of Palm Sunday reveal the unfolding of God’s plan for salvation, with Jesus willingly embracing His path to the cross.

2. Jesus’s entry on a donkey highlights His humility and love, even in the face of impending suffering.

3. The shouts of “Hosanna” remind us of the Kingdom of God, which Jesus inaugurated through His life, death, and resurrection.

4. Christians are called to be transparent witnesses of Jesus’ love, just as the crowds showed their support for Jesus on Palm Sunday.

5. Palm Sunday serves as a reminder to prepare our hearts for the solemn events of Holy Week and the joy of Easter, where Jesus conquers death and leads us to eternal life.

Let us pray and welcome Jesus into our lives so that this Holy Week will be meaningful and fruitful, with thanksgiving to the Lord who suffered and died for us, who brought us to hope for what we believe. AMEN.

God Loves You!
