Pope Pius XI Instituted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas Primas (In the first) to respond to growing nationalism and secularism. He recognized that these societal ills would breed increasing hostility against the Church. His encyclical reminds the faithful that while governments and philosophies come and go, the reign of Jesus is forever.
Today, with the celebration of the Feast of Christ the King, the liturgical year comes to an end. Next Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent which is the beginning of the new liturgical year.
Today, as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, it will be a good thing to take stock and ask some questions:
- Have I given Jesus the first place in my life?
- Have I found my joy, peace, satisfaction in Jesus alone or am I still seeking it in the passing things of this world?
- Is Jesus at the Center of our family life?
- Is Jesus at the Center of our parish life?
- Do I still hold on to the promises of Jesus: that He is enough? That He will never abandon me; that He will always be there for me?
St. John Vianney Hall
Last week, we blessed the work we have done in St. John Vianney Hall. We also asked the Lord to accomplish among us the good work He has already begun. Thank you immensely for your Pilgrimage of Faith support.
The New St. John Vianney Ladies’ Choir
We were very blessed last Sunday to hear the ladies sing. It was beautiful. Thank you, Russ, for joining them and playing the guitar.
May we continue to pray for all who have been affected by the flood in BC.
I wish you all a happy Sunday! Happy Feast of Christ the King!
God love you!
Your brother,
Fr. Obi
