Lessons of Faith

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

It is good to be back home, even if winter still greets us with its cold. Traveling reminds us that every journey involves waiting, discomfort, sleepless moments, and unexpected encounters. Yet these experiences shape us and lead us to our destination, often filled with love and new friendships. In many ways, this mirrors our lessons of faith.

In today’s Scriptures, we hear a powerful message of light, unity, and mission. The prophet Isaiah proclaims that a great light shines upon a people who walked in darkness (Isaiah 9:1–4). This darkness is not only physical, but spiritual—sin, fear, confusion, and despair. The light is Christ Himself. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, who enters our broken world not with force, but with love. In Him, God fulfills His promise and offers hope beyond what any earthly ruler can give.

Saint Paul, writing to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 1:10–18), urgently calls the Church to unity. He warns against divisions rooted in personalities, preferences, or pride. “Has Christ been divided?” he asks. Our unity does not come from eloquence, status, or human wisdom, but from the Cross. What appears foolish to the world is the very power of God that saves and binds us together as one Body in Christ.

In the Gospel (Matthew 4:12–23), Jesus begins His ministry by proclaiming, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven has come near.” He fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy, bringing light to Galilee, a place once overshadowed by darkness. He calls ordinary fishermen and transforms them into disciples—fishers of people. This is also our calling.

As pilgrim people, let us welcome Jesus Christ’s light, guard the unity of our parish, and courageously follow Him. May His light shine through our lives, bringing hope, healing, and peace to all we meet. Amen.

God loves you!
