Diocesan Phase of the Synod

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we celebrate the baptism of Jesus this Sunday, we recall that His mission of bringing the good news to the world began immediately as he stepped out from the waters of River Jordan. The day he ascended into heaven, he commissioned His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations and to baptize them.

This week, we are beginning something special in our parishes. We are joining our diocese to start the diocesan phase of the Synod. It is very appropriate for us to begin the journey with the celebration of the baptism of Jesus. With the Synod we actively enter once again into the mission of Jesus which is our mission, too.

The Synod calls us to be on the road together with our neighbors. To dream once again about the Church we are called to be, to bind wounds, to learn from one another, to build bridges and to go in search of the forgotten, the lost, the least and the neglected. I am very excited about this and I look forward to what Jesus will do in our community and in our diocese through this Synod.

The journey begins in our community on Thursday, January 13 and will conclude on February 10. Enclosed is an insert with details on what we will be reflecting on. We have sent out an invitation to our Synod delegates who will be representing us. However, anyone who wants to is welcome to join us every Thursday. Watch the bulletin for the venue since we will be having it back and forth in our two churches. You can also participate from home by praying and answering the enclosed questions. Please send your response to us. Check the insert for details.

Pilgrimage of Faith

What an incredible campaign we had in 2021. For two years in a row, we have reached and exceeded our goals. In 2020 St. John Vianney raised $66,597.58 and in 2021 $38,371.75. St. Ann, in 2021 raised a historic figure: $100,741.15 and in 2020 $59,475. May the good Lord reward you and replenish for you all you give to Jesus. Thank you for supporting the work of God in our parishes. Now we can rest for 2 months before we start the 2022 campaign. Thank you!

As we celebrate the baptism of Jesus this week, I wish everyone a happy anniversary as we recall our own baptism. I suggest that we have a special family dinner this week to celebrate it. I’ll be cooking for my two brothers this week. Well, you are welcome to join us. Menu? Surprise! 😊

Finally, I thank you for all the presents you gave to me, Melinda, Frs. Harry and Marian at Christmas. We had a wonderful celebration. We hope you did, too. Thank you for everything, most importantly for the gift of your presence in the life of our parishes.

Happy Sunday!

Your brother, Fr. Obi
