In January 2026, Pope Leo XIV decreed a special Jubilee Year on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi. The faithful are encouraged to make pilgrimage to a Franciscan conventual church or place of worship anywhere in the world dedicated to Saint Francis.
Along with the diocesan celebration on the Feast of St. Francis, the Catholic Parishes of Penticton and Summerland’s Holy Child Parish are also planning a pilgrimage to St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Revelstoke on Friday, October 9, 2026. If the number of parishioners travelling is sufficient, we hope to take the school bus. Although the details of this trip remain to be worked out, we would likely leave around 7:30am. Everyone would be encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
If you want to join us, please contact the Parish Office to register as soon as possible.
A plenary indulgence can be gained by satisfying the following conditions:
- Standard Requirements: Sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and complete detachment from all sin.
- Pilgrimage Act: Visiting a designated Franciscan church or St. Francis place of worship, participating in jubilee prayers (such as the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and invocations to St. Francis and St. Clare).
- For the Sick/Homebound: Those unable to travel due to illness or old age may receive the indulgence by uniting spiritually and offering their sufferings with prayers detached from sin.
