Renewal Reflections

Today we are reminded of the presence of the Holy Spirit

Many years ago, I went to my priest asking for his help. Why? Well, I needed to prepare a class for my RCIA candidates on the Holy Spirit. I didn’t know where to begin and I was hopeful that Father would be able to give me direction and perhaps even give me some notes so I wouldn’t have to work on preparing something. I was only in his office for a short time because he only had a few words of wisdom to share with me. What were those words?

“Recite for me the end of the Nicene Creed.” (This was before we had the changes in liturgy). And so I did.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son and with the Father and the Son is to be worshiped and glorified…

When I had finished, Father looked up at me and said…great…now go teach your class…

At that moment I recognized that those words that I prayed every week where not just words, they were a call to action – a call to sharing my faith, a call to worship, to living my faith and allowing the Holy Spirit to penetrate into all I do.

What is the Holy Spirit calling to you?
