I’m often taken aback by the simplest, smallest of words – such as the word “IF”. Little regrets we often have… IF only I did this, IF only I did that. What IF this happens or doesn’t happen.
Jesus speaks clearly today – “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”. Seems more like a statement of fact from Him. Just love me. From that love flows other great gifts – our desire to keep his commandments and our desire to extend that love to others. Is it difficult to love? Well, yes. Sometimes. But we are also promised an Advocate – once who will help us through all things we encounter in our lives.
Today, let’s consider all the “IFs” that we put as a stumbling block in our lives, that simple, small word that stops us from remembering all the love Jesus has for us. Is there one time you can remember saying “IF ONLY”?
