Sense of Belonging

My dear Friends,

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ!

Almost every morning after daily Mass, I go and have coffee with some of the parishioners at McDonalds. In doing this, I can visit with them and learn some of their stories about life, (most of them are already retired and they just go with the flow of life.) For them, it is another day to encounter God with others and as one said, one day, “trying to solve the problems of the world.” Coffee with others symbolizes a connection; an opportunity to share experiences, whether it’s a simple coffee with friends, parishioners, or families. It’s about using coffee as a catalyst for meaningful conversation, a comfortable ritual to foster belonging, and a moment to connect with others. I am so glad that I am invited to come and have coffee with them, as it transforms my ordinary moments into meaningful ones, and fosters a sense of belonging.

All our readings on 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time, encourages us to examine our lives to see if we are living justly before God. Are we following Jesus’ teachings and examples that provided all the necessary guidance for us to know the right way to live and the importance of charity? Being a follower of Jesus requires an active effort on our part to overcome temptations and live according to God’s will.

Thus, these readings serve as a timeless warning against the dangers of wealth and power when not accompanied by compassion and justice. They encourage us to break free from spiritual complacency and pursue a life full of “righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life . . .” (1 Timothy 6: 11-12) to which we belong by serving God and neighbor. AMEN. God Loves You!
