Heat, Phase 3 Re-Opening, and More

Heat

I always enjoy it when the weather is hot. It feels like I’m in Nigeria. But this week was different; the heat was even much for me. Can you believe that? The heat burns the skin. I hope you are keeping cool. May those who have died from the heat wave rest in peace.

June 29 announcement

We express our joy and gratitude to God that we are able to gather again to worship without restrictions. This announcement came on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the pillars of the Church. There is no doubt that the saints have been interceding for us. Please take a look at the first page of the bulletin for details regarding the latest announcement and what we are doing in our parishes now.

Morning Masses only at St. Ann

Owing to the hot weather and the discomfort our people experience while at Mass at St. John Vianney, I’ve made consultations with our people and we decided to have weekday Masses at St. Ann starting Tuesday, July 6. This will continue until further notice. We are making inquiries as to what it might cost to install air condition in St. John Vianney.

St. Ann’s Church: The liturgical significance of using the main entrance. Our parishioners are invited to use the front main entrance door when they arrive for Mass. The wheel chair accessible door will be open only for those who need it. The other door close to the sacristy will be used only as an exit. This has nothing to do with COVID-19 protocols.

When we come in through the front door, we remember what Jesus tells us in the Scripture. “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9) It is wonderful as we come in to remember that Jesus is ‘The door’ and as we genuflect we gaze on the Cross and the Tabernacle to behold the One who loves us, forgives us, died for us and has gone to prepare a place for us in paradise.

So much has happened this week: the catastrophic fire in Lytton and all the displaced families; the collapsed building in Florida and many who have died. Our hearts go out to families grieving. May God’s love enfold them. We unite with our brothers and sisters around the world in prayer and love.

Please stay cool. May Jesus protect and keep us safe.

Happy Sunday!

Your brother, Fr. Obi
