This prayer is taken from of our solemn blessings for the Mass of our Ascension of the Lord:
May almighty God bless you,
for on this very day
his Only Begotten Son pierced the heights of heaven
and unlocked for you the way
to ascend to where He is.
We all know that our life here on earth is just a journey. Along this journey God is blessing us. And because of this blessing our life’s journey enriches and blesses those that we come in contact with. What a wonderful circle of God’s grace we are all a part of!
Pierced the heights of heaven! Wow! At every Mass the Body and Blood of Christ is elevated toward heaven for us to look upon. I find myself drawn to this intimate moment with my Risen Lord and then the incredible gift of His sacrifice becomes a reality for me. I sometimes find myself torn between continuing to gaze upon His presence or to stay forever on my knees in Adoration. It is in this moment I come to the truth – Jesus is the Way. He has indeed pierced and unlocked and shown me the path that I must take to ascend to where He is on my last day of the journey.
What obstacle have we created that blocks the way to where He is. Bring that obstacle to Mass with you today and place it at the Altar.
