Holy Week Reflection: Good Friday

Our final steps through Holy Week could feel heavy and burdened. However, Jesus is always with us to lighten our heavy hearts and carry the weights that burden us.

We are all invited to walk the Way of the Cross with our Lord, to unite in prayer. It will be live streamed at 11:00 am. Please join us on this solemn day of prayer and reflection. Allow yourself to witness each stage of Jesus’ trial, crucifixion and death. Through these we will become Easter people of God.

No Mass is celebrated on Good Friday. The Passion of our Lord brings us to the cross. We are participants, we are witnesses to the ultimate sacrifice. As we cry “Crucify him”, we also pray “Kyrie Christe, Kyrie eleison”: Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy. Our voices blend in Solemn Intercessions, we kneel in adoration before the Holy Cross on which hung the salvation of the world and we spiritually partake in the saving power of the Eucharist, Christ within us.

Through our sadness and despair that our sins have crucified our Lord, we can now look forward to the Resurrection and the joy of Easter.

Today, spend time with Jesus. Walk with Him through His Passion. It will be livestreamed at 3:00 pm. During the Veneration of the Cross, take down your crucifix or cross from the wall. Hold it in your hands during the Adoration of the Cross. Spend this moment in time with Him. Today is a day of fasting and abstinence. Replace the hamburger or steak or chicken with a simple meal centered on fish or vegetables. Forego the dessert. This is a small sacrifice that we can offer in unity to the sacrifice of Christ.

What heavy cross are you carrying? Today is the day to leave it at the foot of the Cross of our Saviour.
