A Warm Welcome to Fr. Neil

A Warm Welcome to Fr. Neil

Fr. Neil comes to us from the Philippines. He has been in Canada for over 15 years. I met him 12 years ago here in Penticton. I spent my first night in the rectory as Fr. Rex and Fr. Neil welcomed me. He was the associate pastor the time I met him in Penticton.

Fr. Neil is a joyful man of pleasant disposition. He loves Jesus, loves the Church and loves God’s people. One thing that is easily noticeable about him is his love and care. Fr. Neil sees you and is interested in you. This is a great quality and a gift to have as a pastor and I’m sure Fr. Neil will serve our beloved community with these and many other gifts.

Fr. Neil’s last assignment was at the Cathedral where he served as the Rector. He also served once as the Diocesan CWL Chaplain. Taking over from me, Fr. Neil is now the editor of Mountain Star Magazine and the Director of Communication in our diocese.
After serving as associate pastor here in Penticton, Fr. Neil was appointed pastor of Christ the King Parish, Oliver. From Oliver, he moved to Nelson.

Penticton is home for him and he will fit in right away. Fr. Neil is very much liked by those who know him both here in Penticton and in Oliver. And our people are pleased to welcome him back home.

Among other things, he is known for his brilliant acronyms. He comes up with acronyms week after week. I’m terrible at that. I don’t have that brilliance.

Fr. Neil now has a dog named Aya. I understand that Aya is a common female Japanese name which means “beautiful”. It is also an Arabic feminine name meaning ‘wonderful’, ‘amazing’ ‘miracle’. Aya is already packing he toys ready for the move.

My prayer is that Fr. Neil’s ministry among will be beautiful, gracious, wonderful, with a touch of miracle.

Please join me to welcome our new Pastor, Fr. Neil Lustado.

Happy Sunday!

Your brother,

Fr. Obi
